Modeling and Heuristically Solving Group Train Operation Scheduling for Heavy-Haul Railway Transportation

In light of the improvements to capacity and timeliness heavy-haul railway transportation that can be organized through group trains originating at a technical station, we address train operation scheduling problem with freight demand importance via newly proposed mixed integer programming model simulated annealing algorithm. The optimization objective is minimize weighted sum cost total cargo travel time under condition matching supply within period. main constraints are extracted from relations, delivery commitment, maintenance time, number locomotives. A algorithm was constructed generate grouping scheme, stopping scheme running schedule trains. numerical experiment based on real configuration employed verify efficacy heuristics results show methodology achieve high-quality solutions. case reveal volume increased by 2.03%, departure decreased CNY 337,000, which difference in 27,764, 40.9%, indicating create benefits for both enterprises customers.
